Doris Jean Peterson, age 93, of Brainerd, MN was born on February 17, 1926, in Jackson County, MN, and passed away peacefully on March 7, 2019, at St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Peterson in May of 1975, parents William and Grace Kuhlman, siblings Bill, Marjorie, Birdeva, Darlene, Leo, and June. Doris’ memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of her children: Duane (Kathi), Stephen (Brenda), Lynn (Shelley), and Brent (Diana); her grandchildren Angela, Andrea (Todd), Adam (Ashley), Jared, Jordyn (Milan), and Evan; and her great grandchildren Francisco, Amelia, Aaron, Wyatt, Kylar, Ellie, and many loved nieces, nephews, and friends. Doris viewed her life as being blessed by God and a servant of the lord. She attended religious services at the South Long Lake Presbyterian, Riverside Community, and the Heritage Assembly of God churches. Doris was foremost a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was at the center of her family. Doris attended school at Spirit Lake, Iowa, through her junior year, and after moving to the Daggett Brook area, graduated from Brainerd High School. Doris and Vernon were married on March 19, 1945. Following some time as a full-time homemaker, she was employed at the Brainerd Regional Center for disabled clients from 1960 to retirement in 1986 and worked for L.S.S. Group Home from 1986 to 1994. Doris leaves a set of values and a legacy of caring for others that lives on in all of those she touched. Doris was known and will be remembered for her fun sense of humor and knowledge of historical and current events. She loved cooking, baking, traveling, sewing, and photography. She always showed her love to family and friends throughout her life along with a home cooked meal. Doris had a no-nonsense approach to life and encouraged all “to get after it.” We all loved her for that. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Halvorson Taylor Life Events Center, in Brainerd. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The meal will be proudly provided by her grandson’s “Pit Happens Catering.” Donations of offering will be forwarded to the Heritage Assemblies of God Church in Baxter, MN. Interment will be held at Riverside Community Church Cemetery for close family members following the meal time.
